Project Duration: June 2025 – December 2026
What is the problem?
ASCT are recognized as essential to developing and implementing high-resolution site characterization (HRSC), but adoption is limited by a lack of guidance on the investigation design and interpretation of the results. ASCT and HRSC are still not routinely used at release investigation and cleanup sites, particularly small facilities. The absence of a framework and understanding about how to apply HRSC information to make decisions at the beginning of release investigations or at ongoing cleanup sites and perception of costs has limited the use of these technologies.
What is the solution?
This Project Team will review and update the 2019 ITRC ASCT Guidance (ASCT-1) with new technologies to develop improved guidance including tools to conduct HRSC investigations and using the data in CSMs. The update will include technology additions with remote sensing using drone technology and time-lapse surface resistivity techniques. The update will also include methods to design HRSC investigations at small commercial facilities (dry cleaners, gas stations) to provide state regulators, practitioners, and site owners with the tools they need to fully implement HRSC.
