Purpose of the ITRC Board of Advisors

The Board of Advisors (BOA) plays a vital role in ensuring that ITRC fulfills its mission. The BOA, composed of distinguished leaders from state government agencies, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy,  U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the private sector, offers invaluable guidance for ITRC's initiatives. Like all ITRC members, our BOA members serve as volunteers without compensation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The ITRC BOA serves as a strategic sounding board for ITRC members, programs, and projects.  Board members leverage their extensive experience, knowledge, and professional network to:

  • Provide strategic direction: Assists the ITRC Director and staff in setting ITRC's long-term goals and priorities, ensuring we remain relevant and are addressing the most pressing needs of our membership.

  • Champion ITRC’s programs and projects: Acts as advocates for ITRC, promoting the use of our tools and resources, and marketing our training opportunities. 

  • Meeting the needs of our members: Helps ensure we address environmental topics of priority through their involvement in ITRC programs and projects, approving new Project Team proposals, and offering advice on improving our resources and services. 

  • Building our membership: Leveraging their extensive network of colleagues and partners, and establishing new relationships, the BOA helps recruit a diverse group of environmental experts to support ITRC members, programs, and projects. 

  • Securing our future: Supports ITRC’s budget and works closely with the ITRC Director to sustain our financial support.

Commitment and Expectations

  • The Board meets monthly (90 minute virtual meeting) to discuss program progress, strategic direction, and key issues. 

  • The Board meets in-person twice per year at locations throughout the U.S.

  • Board Members may be asked to formally represent ITRC at external meetings and events with our partners and key stakeholders.

  • Board Members may be assigned to assist ITRC staff in coordinating the work of ITRC Programs (ex., State Engagement Program, Training Program, Early Career Professionals) and Project Teams.

  • Board members are expected to actively participate in meetings, provide insights and guidance, and contribute to Program work as assigned.
