ITRC recently completed the Technical and Regulatory guidance document titled “Geophysical Classification for Munitions Response Sites (GCMR-2)”. GCMR-2 and companion internet-based training introduced new Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures developed for geophysical classification surveys using advanced geophysical sensors. As a result of these advances in QA/QC procedures, many of the QA/QC activities presented in previous ITRC documents “Geophysical Proveouts for Munitions Response Projects” (UXO-3) and “Quality Considerations for Munitions Response Projects” (UXO-5) may be obsolete. Therefore, the UXO Team will produce a completely new document applicable to any munitions response project by reviewing and extracting pertinent information from ITRC UXO-3 and UXO-5 and adding the latest advances in geophysical classification procedures.

The new document will help regulators understand QA/QC activities necessary to ensure quality munitions response projects. Regulators and stakeholders armed with this information will be able to quickly review MR work plans, evaluate the quality of MR work performed, minimize rework, speed up projects, and reduce cost. The primary deliverables will be an updated technical and regulatory guidance document and revised internet-based training.
